El modelo NUGU: Limitación grupal de smartphones y el poder de la rendición de cuentas compartida

What occurs when you impose private screen limits on yourself? In moments of evening fatigue, a subtle voice rationalizes: 'Nobody is watching; 15 extra minutes won't hurt.' Secrecy and isolation are the primary enablers of bad habits; when a restriction is known only to you, breaking it carries zero social consequence.

In an influential study presented at ACM CSCW, researchers Minsam Ko and colleagues at KAIST investigated this behavioral vulnerability. Surveying 114 participants, they observed that while users frequently attempted mechanical fixes like powering down or hiding devices, individual self-control deficits consistently eroded these solo tactics.

To solve this problem, the team engineered NUGU, a collaborative application where peer groups established collective usage targets and transparently monitored each other's screen time and limit infractions. The field trials revealed that shared visibility generated unmatched adherence rates compared to individual usage controls.

Post-study interviews revealed that social friction—the gentle embarrassment of letting a trusted partner down combined with collaborative celebration—provided the vital psychological buffer that solo willpower could never supply.

This empirical breakthrough forms the conceptual cornerstone of Limitra Social. Rather than fighting predatory tech algorithms in solitary isolation, Limitra Social links your daily limit with a trusted accountability partner: when boundaries are respected, digital victory is shared.
