Official survey data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) shows internet usage surging to 91.3% among children aged 6-15, with smartphone ownership reaching 86.2% for those aged 11-15.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) released its dedicated 'Research on Information and Communication Technology Usage in Children', offering comprehensive official metrics on digital immersion among the country's youth. The data revealed that internet penetration among children aged 6 to 15 surged from 82.7% in 2021 to 91.3% in recent surveys.
Device distribution statistics highlight rapid mobile adoption: mobile phone usage reached 66.3% among ages 6-10, climbing to 86.2% for adolescents aged 11-15. Furthermore, 63.8% of surveyed children reported exclusive individual ownership of at least one connected smart device within their household.
Online activities are overwhelmingly dominated by streaming entertainment: 83.9% of connected minors regularly watch short and long-form video content, 75.0% utilize the internet for school homework, and 72.7% engage in online gaming, followed closely by social networking feeds.
Child development specialists point out that complete disconnection is unfeasible in modern society; however, implementing automated, friction-backed screen limits on personal devices is critical to safeguarding attention spans, sleep schedules, and emotional resilience.
